Stand together to conquer
Faces of horror, lips of complaints, weary foot and the likes rove our streets day and night as the Federal government removed the fuel subsidy. Some people term it “new year gift” while others term it “Bad luck”. Though it was stated that the removal of the fuel subsidy was for the betterment of the country yet the masses suffer and grind their teeth in anguish.
As I was coming back to Kaduna from eastern part of the Nigeria few days ago, hobble images clouded my vision. Unimaginable accidents, armed robbery scene, hawkers blocking the road to make ends meet, bad road, and so on were all I could see. A typical example of bad road is the road that leads from Onitsha to Asaba, Okene then down to Lokoja was so horrible. I could hear my empty stomach drumming for survival as my boarded vehicle hoped up and down from the potholes. At a point in time, I thought I was almost “flying” due to the deep and dangerous potholes. I was sad and remorseful that at a point in time, I felt a deep sense of courage and strength even amidst the things I was seeing.
I couldn’t stop thinking about the evil vices accumulating our dear country. The more I think, the more I develop high blood pressure. It is from one mishap to another. We already have boko haram, ASSU, war, strike, high rate of unemployment, corruption increase, and high poverty rate, to mention but few. Now it is fuel subsidy. Imagine a country facing all these mishap and yet the masses survive. This is a good indication of strong hearted people.
How many masses can endure and survive this till the end? How will the “don’t haves” survive? How long will all these last? Who will rescue us? These are some of the questions begging for answer.
This country belongs to us. We can’t run or even if we do, we will still have to trace our father land (being Nigeria). So, let’s stand strong, courageous and bold as one unified family. Let us ignore religious, tribal and ethnic difference as it will only end up chattering us all.
Remember that a bunch of broom can never be broken. So we can only conquer if we stand together.
